The following is a brief list of some of the most popular kayak and public access related web sites that are relevant to the Boathouse:


  Atlantic Kayak Tours

They run organized trips throughout the region and also offer training classes.

Brooklyn Bridge Park Coalition

An alliance of civic, community, and environmental groups, that is working to bring a waterfront park to the Brooklyn shoreline between the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges. The Boathouse runs some kayaking programs in their park.

Brooklyn Waterfront Museum

Site contains a lot of information about public access and boating issues on the Brooklyn Waterfront.

Community Board #1

The board has always been a strong supporter of the boathouse. They are very active in the design of the new Hudson River Park, and on many issues related to the waterfront.

Delaware & Hudson Canoe & Kayak Club

This club does a lot of paddling throughout the area, including the New York Harbor.

Friends of Hudson River Park

Acts as an advocacy and support organization for building a magnificent Hudson River Park.

Hudson River Paddlers Guild

Promotes and supports kayaking and other paddlesports on the on the Hudson River. Runs numerous public programs

The Gowanus Dredgers

A canoe club based on the Gowanus Canal in Brooklyn. Runs a public access and canoeing program in the canal.

Inwood Canoe Club

Founded in 1902, the Inwood Canoe Club is the oldest canoe and kayak club in Manhattan. The Inwood Canoe Club promotes competitive and recreational canoeing and kayaking.

Hoboken Cove Boathouse

A group organizing and building a boathouse in Hoboken New Jersey. The founders of this group are Hoboken Residents that started at the Downtown Boathouse. They are looking for volunteers and paddlers in the Hoboken area to help them complete their boathouse.

Hudson River Park Trust

State organization that is building and managing the new Hudson River Park.

Hudson River Watertrail Association

A great non-profit organization that puts out a guide on paddling the Hudson from Albany to New York City. They also run and manage the NYCKayaker email listserver. To subscribe to nyckayker go to the webpage:

L.I.C. Community Boathouse

A growing Boathouse on the East River in Long Island City. They offer a variety of free kayaking programs.

Long Island Paddlers

Based on Long Island NY, the club organizes paddling trips for a range of skill levels in all parts of Long Island.

Manhattan Kayak Company

Local outfitter located on the Hudson at 23rd Street. They run trips and classes, and have rental storage for kayaks.

New York Kayak Company

Kayak store stocking full line of equipment including boats. Located on the Hudson at Pier 40, just North of the Boathouse. They run classes and trips, and have rental storage for kayaks.

New York Kayak Polo

New York Kayak Polo is a non-profit organization with the aim of promoting the game of Kayak Polo (also known abroad as Canoe Polo) in the New York City area. The group was born as one of the volunteer programms in the Downtown Boathouse in the summer of 2002, but they have evolved into an independent organization. They welcome people to try this exciting water sport.

North Atlantic Canoe and Kayak

NACK is an American Canoe Association "Paddle America Club" formed on Long Island by kayak instructors to provide training, safety, adventure and fellowship to paddlers of all interests in the North Atlantic Region.

Peconic Paddler

Kayak store and rental operation located on Long Island in River Head. They are only a few blocks from the River Head Long Island Rail Road station. You can rent a boat and paddle right from their store.

Red Hook Boaters

A Group offering free Kayaking and Canoeing in Brooklyn's Red Hook mneighborhood. They operate out of the New York City Kayak and Canoe Launch at the Valentino Park at the end of Coffey Street in Brooklyn. Check their website for their scehdule.

Sebago Canoe Club

A canoe and kayak club with a facility in Paerdegat Basin on Jamaica Bay (a national wildlife refuge), at the foot of avenue N in Brooklyn. They also have a cabin on Lake Sebago in Harriman State Park for members. They have a public kayaking program similar to the boathouse, and also have storage facilities for members of their club.

TASCA Sailing School and Club

TASCA Operates a sailing program in Flushing Meadow Park. They include both on water and classroom instruction in basic sailing using small boats.

Yonkers Paddling & Rowing Club

A kayak club based in Yonkers on the river right near the train station. They run a lot of trips, and have storage facilities available for members.
